Do you even meditate, bro? Whenever I catch myself asking someone if they meditate, I'm so annoyed with my own question. What a boring activity. Especially if they've tried it and nothing happened. Besides, could I even describe what it's like? I'm glad you asked.
First, I'll say this... the simple act of finding time and space to sit down meditate can be a huge hurdle in itself and it's definitely discouraging if it doesn't work. If you're interested in learning how to meditate, find a meditation group. Although it's a silent and entirely subjective activity, it's much easier to achieve a meditative state within a group. This is because individuals tend to amplify the relevant frequencies of consciousness within a group setting.
Years ago, when my passive interest in Buddhism happened to activate, I attended a liturgy at a Buddhist temple. The monk led a simple guided meditation that was purely focused on the breath. Coming out of that meditation, I had never felt so relaxed in my life - not without an accompanying sense of paranoia, anyway.
Five years later, in early 2020 - I told you it's hard to find time and space - I joined a meditation group at the local Universalist Unitarian Church. A different member selected a guided meditation from YouTube and played it for the group each week. My first couple of visits were uneventful. Then, one group member conducted a live guided meditation.
There are many, many different types of meditations. This one was a Chakra Activation. It started with the Root Chakra at the base of the spine, then up to the Sacral, then Solar Plexus, and so on. I was completely focused but my experience was the same as always until just after the Crown Chakra. If you're unfamiliar with the Chakras, this is commonly considered to be the 7th and final one within bounds of the physical body. She then continued.
"Bring your attention to the area just above your head," she said.
I noticed the presence of three small orbs of light. They were light blue but burning so brightly they were nearly white. Not blinding, but comfortable to behold. These are considered the Soul Star Chakra. Two of them may have been different Charkas, I'm not sure, turns out there are several that hover around up there.
The guide maintained perfect timing between each Chakra. After allowing our attention to linger on the Soul Star, she slowly bought our attention down toward space below us. As my attention moved away from my Soul Star, I saw a beautiful dark smoke emanating from it. It was so dark blue that it was nearly black. The smoke moved downward, encasing me in something of an ovoid forcefield. Was I seeing my own aura?
My eyes remained closed as they had been for the duration. As this aura slowly draped itself around me, the entire room became visible and began revealing itself as a hologram. I could see the shape of the couch I was seated on, the surfaces of the tables, the walls surrounding us, and the entire layout of the building. They were all translucent but dark maybe because it was dark outside? My aura continued along, penetrating the floor. I could see the crawl space and the ground now. Once the smoke met itself about 6 feet directly below me, I saw the most amazing thing.
It was a sphere engulfed in slow but vivid magenta flames. The deep, dark blue smoke was weaving itself within the flames as they steadily flickered. It was like a flower caught in a state of regenerative bloom. Later, I would discover this was my Earth Star Chakra.
If this reality really is just a simulation, like an RPG, I feel like I obtained an achievement badge, "[dink] Visualization Unlocked." I do my best not to annoy others with the question, "Do you meditate?" but that's how you access the lobby of this RPG.
Fun Fact: There are photoreceptors located in the pineal gland, AKA The third eye. Our bodies are designed for this.
